A national campaign to encourage people to store emergency contact numbers in their cell phones under the heading ICE (in case of emergency) was recently launched in the United Kingdom. Because of the terrorist attacks in London last July, ambulance paramedic Bob Brotchie hatched the idea after experiencing difficulty in getting contact details from shocked of injured persons.

Mobile telecommunications company Vodafone conducted a research and discovered that more than 75 percent of people don’t have details in their phone of who should be contacted in case of an emergency. With ice, paramedics and police will be able to call the designated relative during a disaster.

To store ICE in your phone, just enter the phone number of the person you wish to be contacted under that heading. For more than one contact name, use ICE1, ICE2 and so on.
